Building a Sales Funnel in WordPress

Building a sales funnel in WordPress that converts can be challenging because WordPress is not naturally set up for this task. To build a high-converting sales funnel, you need the following:

  • A theme with a landing page template that fits your purpose perfectly
  • An easy way to build landing pages, pricing tables, and sales pages
  • A variety of pre-made templates for the above. Because you’re not a designer and don’t want to waste time
  • Simple design of the merchandise, such as an online course, product, or membership
  • A payment method to collect payment for your products
  • A choice of pre-made opt-in forms
  • Easy integration with your favourite email marketing service
  • Scarcity marketing tools (countdown timers, pop-ups) Pop-up on exit, social proof & social sharing tools.
  • You should have enough choice to select the look and feel of your website so that it suits the segment and content.
  • It should be easy to build the components that make up the sales funnel, and they should all integrate.
  • It should be easy (automatic) to place the opt-in forms in the positions where they are most effective.
  • You should also be able to create landing pages with a few mouse clicks.
  • The platform should have enough templates where you can change the text, change the photo and, if necessary, flexibly add any additional components.

Conflicts between plug-ins and themes

Since there are multiple functions in a sales funnel, you will need different plug-ins. If the plug-ins are from different companies, there is a good chance that they will not integrate well and that functions may overlap.

This will cause plug-in conflicts, which can lead to annoying grey pages on the website, and you will have to figure out why the conflict is occurring.

Next, you need to replace plugins that are unlikely to work well with the rest. Speed issues may also arise due to different types of code and lazy loading of scripts.

A poorly designed and poorly optimised website will only cause frustration and, in any case, no opt-ins or sales.

All these factors prove that the majority of your plugins and themes should come from the same source or, at the very least, have been tested for conflicts beforehand.

This is something OneTap Online does for our customers on a daily basis.

Choosing a WordPress theme for the best sales funnel

The first thing you need is a WordPress theme.

To be honest, there are far too many themes, and this can be very confusing. Themes usually come with a pre-made set of homepage templates. This is usually a good thing because it gives you something to start with. You don’t have to start from scratch.

But at the same time, this limits creativity, flexibility and the extent to which you can adjust (optimise) the sales funnel later on. If your sales funnel says that an opt-in form with a green button has better conversion, but the button on the theme template’s home page is always blue, this will work against you.

Full-service website agencies create custom themes for a reason. But of course, you pay for that!

Over the years, OneTap has developed its own theme, which we install free of charge and which offers the quality and flexibility of a custom-made theme. This is because we have created the design and the theme completely independently of each other.

So, do yourself a favour… Find a theme that offers multiple layouts and a page editor. That way, when you need a different layout, you don’t have to start from scratch. Try the OneTap Theme free for 14 days and experience extreme freedom. This theme is free for every customer.

The problem with free themes

Many people start with free themes. These are fine in the beginning, but sooner or later you will need a premium theme. Why not use a free theme? Free themes are notorious for poorly optimised coding.

They load slowly, and every second of delay will result in 7 per cent fewer visitors (they leave the website before it has even loaded).

Themes look ‘free’ (not good) and many of them are not properly mobile responsive.

You are limiting yourself enormously because you have no opportunity to make changes to their design.

And it is very difficult or downright impossible to build a landing page or a sales funnel. Let alone customise it.

What’s more, Google sees that you are using a free theme (poor coding) and this will affect the website’s search engine rankings. The same applies to very cheap (sometimes even free) hosting providers. Because many spam companies look for cheap solutions, Google considers the location (IP) to be less interesting.
